LEGO Disney Hocus Pocus The Sanderson Sisters Cottage 21341 Set Review - Cast Magic Spells
You're in for a spellbinding time with the fun and eerie LEGO set inspired by the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus. The Disney Hocus Pocus Sanderson Sisters' Cottage is a new LEGO Ideas set that brings the frightening world of Hocus Pocus to life. Now it's time to head back to Salem and relight the Black Flame Candle.
This magnificent 2,316-piece kit transports Master Builders back to Salem. It measures 10 inches in height and width, this set is perfect for any Hocus Pocus fan since it also includes six LEGO minifigures namely Winifred Sanderson, Sarah Sanderson, Mary Sanderson, Allison Watts, Max Dennison, Dani Dennison.
This LEGO Hocus Pocus set has everything you look for from the film: kitchen, a home turned museum, detailed interiors, minifigures, and easter eggs that will reminded you of the classic sets from the Disney movie.
These Lego kits are fantastic examples of the ingenuity of LEGO Ideas, featuring the Sanderson Sisters' Cottage from Hocus Pocus, so now you can pretend any day that you feel as Halloween.
Design
Create a replica of The Sanderson Sisters' Cottage from the Disney Halloween classic Hocus Pocus and reenact some of the film's most memorable scenes.
Amber Veyt designed this fantastic licensed set based on the 1993 supernatural comedy, which follows the zany trio of witches who accidentally resurrected and set to wreak havoc on the town of Salem.
The Sanderson Sisters' cottage has a ton of character, and movie fans will appreciate the included minifigures and the exquisite attention to detail, especially in the house interior.
You can tell the design team are real fans of Hocus Pocus and made sure to include all the little elements that make the difference in a set like this one, making this an excellent example of a licensed property done well.
Even the sticker sheet is full of clever in-jokes and references, most of which can be easily applied. Since stickers are a common approach for licensed sets to increase realism and incorporate many crucial features from the movie, this collection has everything a fan of the famous Halloween film might want for its tribute.
The Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters' Cottage 21341 is an aesthetic Lego model that's just the right size for display and interaction without being prohibitively pricey or overwhelming to build.
The tons of dark brown tiles and useful house and structure building parts provides a great example of Medieval architecture, which means you can be transported back in time to the movie's witch-burning period.
Features
The six characters featured in this set are Sarah Sanderson, Mary Sanderson, Winifred Sanderson, Max Dennison, Dani Dennison, and Allison Watts. It also comes with cat form of Thackery Binx as well as several other accessories.
Set the LEGO® light brick on fire with the cauldron, flip open the Book of Spells, turn the water wheel, and watch pink smoke billow from the chimney are just some of the notable details that pay homage to the 90's flick.
If you fold back the roof, you'll see the triple bed witches' bedroom, hanging cages, bats, spiderwebs and an adjoining chamber where the witches held Dani captive.
The Disney Hocus Pocus The Sanderson Sisters' Cottage 21341 includes 2,316 pieces.
The witches' cottage is over 10.5 inches (27 cm) in height, 10 inches (26 cm) in width, and 9 inches (24 cm) in depth, making it ideal for playful build, casual construction, display, and showcase. All the included figures can be placed on the gate or graveyard.
Minifigures
The LEGO Hocus Pocus set, like most licensed sets, is defined by its minifigures. There are six minifigures including Max and Dani Dennison, Allison Watts, and Sarah, Winnifred, and Mary Sanderson, all decked out in their witchy finest. Sadly, Billy is not included. As mentioned, you'll also get Thackery Binx as a feline!
The minifigures are adorable, and fans will be thrilled with the attention to detail given to their prints, inclusion of new wigs and accessories that perfectly capture their characters personalities.
Just look at Sarah, Winnifred, and Mary Sanderson — the three lovable witches whose minifigures are sure to please those who have followed the Hocus Pocus films. The capes, recognizable heads and wigs set off the sharp, detailed printing on their costumes.
The designers created two new wigs that perfectly capture Mary and Winnifred's movie-perfect looks, while the recolored Palpatine green lightning bolts are a nice touch as well.
Take a peek at Allison Watts, Max, and Dani Dennison, three of the supporting cast members. They're just as detailed, and I really dig their clothes as they have a nice, modern vibe to them, with the exception of Dani Dennison's witch costume, which is absolutely fantastic.
Extremely noteworthy is Dani's witch hat, which features fused hair and a fantastic choice for those in search of a more sophisticated witchy hat to complement their minifigure Halloween ensembles.
Minifigures and these recognizable figures are a big part of what makes this set interesting, so the designers included a gate that may be used as a showcase for them.
You can use this element as a standalone exhibit for the minifigures or integrated into larger structures. This folds up neatly into a fence, which is a lovely touch. The LEGO tree is another element you will enjoy to set up.
You'll even see cute kitty paw tracks seen in the soil that can be seen going to Binx's place. The tombstones and grave markers on the other hand are grim references to Billy and the Zombies.
Unfortunately, Disney was very particular about which six minifigures were included in the set, and Billy was not one of them, despite the fact that he is a fan favorite and many people wanted to buy a minifigure of him.
Interiors
The final build, which includes a sizable replica of the Sanderson Museum and Cottage. Fans will be pleased to see the Sanderson Cottage realized on this scale, and the design team did a fantastic job. Although it's a bit pricey, this cottage comes fully assembled with all four walls and is a decent size, making it an excellent display model.
Those who prefer older or medieval-looking structures will also appreciate the design, and the build itself is full of unique and entertaining detail. If you grew up with Hocus Pocus and are familiar with the house, the completed set is full of personality and charm.
The house doesn't have the dollhouse style others had and its completely enclosed, which is great news for LEGO lovers who seek a more comprehensive build. You'll appreciate how the brown tiles are laid out unevenly to give the place an aged appearance. The facade is paneled with rustic dark brown tiles and has masonry bricks interspersed throughout.
Many builders have wondered what the predominantly gray roof is for, as the roof appears brown in the film. The designer Amber seem to found a photo showing a slate roof, which was much closer to grey, and just used that as the basis for the final design. Though this help provide contrast and keeps the color brown from being too dominant.
There's also the chimney and newly recolored, iridescent pinkish-purple Monkie Kid clouds. As you turn the water wheel, they bob up and down. And then you can see the entrance sign of the Witch Museum.
Imaginative Play
Let's go inside and you'll see the back walls expand outward, and the roof rises up to provide access to the attic, allowing you to explore the intricately designed interior.
This looks adorable on how the accessory chamber is secured with Technic pins, yet it can be removed entirely, where the roof can be opened in the same way.
Inside, it looks a little tight, and if you have big, clumsy hands, then you'll find it hard and frustrating to build the interior, as you'll continually knock stuff over as you rearrange the minifigures.
The first floor should have been removable, just like in a modular structure which would have made getting in and out so much simpler.
Fans will appreciate the design team's efforts to replicate as many elements as they could from the movie's witch museum, which bursts at the seams with some Easter eggs.
You can turn on the fireplace lights by pressing the button located beneath the cauldron. You'll notice that the candle flame really is black. This flame element is made in new trans-black color, and looks fantastic when placed next to the round brick.
Then there's the spellbook, sealed in glass, of course. Here you can see the spell that transforms Thackery Binx into a black cat, which is written in one of the ornamental stickers on the book's cover.
You'll also see Mary's double broom before she gets a mop, by the way. If you take a look at the master bedroom, it comes with a king-size bed and a cleaning supply closet. Just everything you need to recreate classic scenes from the movie.
There's also the roof-mounted skeleton cages where it it held Dani Dennison captive by the Sanderson witches.
