LEGO Eiffel Tower 10307 Set Review - Build Your Own Piece of Paris

LEGO is bringing back the Eiffel Tower as the latest addition to its Icons line. This LEGO set, just like the French landmark, is an awesome feat of engineering and definitely one of our favorites this year.

One of LEGO's most stunning and ambitious model sets to date, the Lego Icons Eiffel Tower 10307 stands at 1.5 meters, or 4.8 feet, tall and features over 10,000 individual pieces. This is the largest LEGO set ever and one of the most visually appealing.

However, it may not be for everyone because of the price and enormous scale of the model. If you decide to get it, you'll need to carefully consider where you'll place this set before you assemble it because of its size.

The Eiffel Tower in France is one of the world's most famous landmarks and a masterpiece of architecture.

You've probably made plans to travel to France solely to view the Tower, and you'll most likely want to bring a camera along to capture the experience. Lego ensures that the set accurately represents the landmark.

Package

A set of this magnitude comes in a massive box that weighs about 13 kilograms. There's a solid reason for the size of this collection: it's incredibly detailed.

When you lift the covers, you'll find a lot of information about the 324-meter wrought-iron Eiffel Tower and about Gustave Eiffel, who was primarily responsible for bringing it to life.

The big box measures 15 by 18 by 22.5 inches, with tab seals on two of the sides. A dark background, minimal branding, and a gray strip down the bottom require you to be an "adult/experienced collector" or 18+. This is definitely not a Lego kit for novice builders.

There are three other small boxes inside the larger box. Each smaller box has the necessary pieces to assemble a certain segment of the tower, as depicted on its front flap.

Every box has a graphic that corresponds to the part of the tower it contains, along with a number in the upper left corner. The tower's section areas are rendered in tan, making it clear what will be your focus during your build.

Build Process

 The building process is made up of three stages, starting with each box.

The Foundation (Box 1)

The first small box or Box 1 focuses on the base. If you look attentively at the box image, you can tell that this stage will just have the base of the metal structure and the ground.

It has fourteen individually bagged parts, five bags of huge plates, and four loose 16x16 black plates inside box 1.

The manual, called "Book 1," is 92 pages long and is bound in the center. There's a two-page layout dedicated to the set's lead designer, Rok Galin Kobe.

The tower's foundation begins at its four corners. The red, white, and blue internal bricks allude to the colors of the French flag.

You need four sets of bracing to complete the innermost perimeter of the base. The following stage involves embellishments like miniature flower beds, olive green bases, plant plates, lampposts, central stalks, larger tree assemblies, and circular leaf elements.

The first box is finished once the decorative pieces are set on the foundation.

Tower Floor (Box 2)

The first floor and middle support of the tower is assembled in Box 2, with 22 numbered part bags within the box. The second manual has 200 pages in a sturdy binder, with emphasis solely on the building procedures.

The east/west and north/south legs are indicated by yellow and red, respectively, as shown in the foundation.

A beam of stacked plates and cross-beams is used on both sides of the leg. Technic beams will bring the four legs together, and these beams clip onto a square plate foundation.

The legs slide into the bottom and lean on each other, clicking into place with the yellow and red indicators. The arches provided the desired locking effect. The appearance of the arches is improved by the installation of flex tubing along the lower edge.

Grates on top secure the structure, with the beams joining the outer and inner rings. The second stage locks the lower leg structure together, giving a safe "push point" to square up the lower legs.

The Summit (Box 3)

You've now reached the home stretch with Box 3, which is for the tower's vertical ascent. The third manual comprises 250 pages. There are 34 numbered part packs.

The second story must be constructed first, with the primary structure using a square plate foundation with Technic beam bracing, just like the lower legs.

The legs are also designed similarly, with clips attached to both the top and bottom plates.

You have to construct two legs at a time, attach them, and then construct the remaining ones in essentially the same way. This middle floor seems more solid than the one below it due to the shorter spans and close Technic connections. By fastening everything together, you now have a sturdy tower segment.

As you progress upward, the crossbars become narrower. However, the same components are still employed generally. As a shift in approach would have been immediately noticeable, this helps maintain a consistent aesthetic.

After you finished this upper half, you can connect it to the lower part using four 2x2 tiles.

The hard climb to the top is finally over. A ring of modest windows is filled out with 11 and 12 plate glass.

The French flag is the last piece that you will place on top.
